Located only 10kms south of Greymouth, Shantytown is where New Zealand retells the inspirational stories of the hardy, treasure seeking immigrants who battled through the harsh conditions of the most challenging of the 19th centuries great gold rushes to become West Coasters.

Amongst the eclectic collection of Pioneer relics and Kiwiana that has come to comprise Shantytown≠s unique and valuable collection are some true gems. This vast and significant collection is housed in over 30 historic buildings, enabling the visitor to wend their way through the town as interlopers into a bygone era.

On Yer Bike!

Set in a backdrop of lush West Coast rainforest, brace yourself for the off road adventure of a lifetime.

Children, over the age of 12, and adults can operate one of our motorbikes, or anyone of any age can be a passenger in our 6-seater 8WD Amphibious Argo. 2-Seater go-karts have been added to our fleet of vehicles so that younger children can now experience an offroad adventure with the adults.

For younger children there are mini bikes for ages from6 years.

Our tracks are a magical mix of mud, water and inviting narrow, winding trails. You'll enjoy the thrill of navigating one of our 4WD motorbikes across rivers, through copious amounts of our famous mud and through puddles that resemble small lakes.

There are plenty of photo opportunities at the many beautiful spots in the forest. You'll see tall native trees, birdlife, views of the valley and maybe some wild deer tracks.

You don't need any experience or drivers licence to operate our bikes or Go-karts as our experience guides will fully train you and accompany you on all tours.
