Paramata Lodge is set in a spectacular natural landscape beside ancient native forest, with a Southern Alps mountain backdrop, and miles of untouched sandy beach in front.

Being so near to Hokitika and Franz Josef means that this lodge is perfectly situated between some of the best-known West Coast attractions: Franz Josef Glacier, Hokitika Gorge, Punakaiki Pancake rocks and Okarito kiwi sanctuary.

Fine dining and guided nature tours are available.

Rooms at Paramata Lodge

Room 1: Takaroa (Creator of Sea Creatures)

This individually appointed upstairs room enjoys the sunrise and sunset. Large window views take in the scene from the hills to the beach, the garden to the old growth forest. Spacious, uncluttered and relaxing.

  • Super-king or twin beds with luxury natural bedding.

Room 2: Tawhirimatea (Creator of the Wind)

This upstairs room gets afternoon sun and sunsets through the trees. Magnificent views to the forest, the Southern Alps mountains and the sea in the distance.

  • Super-king or twin beds with luxury natural bedding.

Room 3: Rakahore (Creator of Rocks)

This downstairs room has bifold doors opening out onto a deck for enjoying the afternoon sun and views. Looking out to regenerating and ancient indigenous forest, the lodge native gardens and hills beyond will keep you charmed.

  • Fully tiled spacious and accessible ensuite bathroom with height adjustable power shower and handrails.
  • King size bed with luxury bedding.

Guided nature tours

The owners of Paramata Lodge are conservationists and offer guided nature tours around their property with 400 year old Kahikatea trees. Bird tours are also on offer when you stay at the lodge.

An art garden is also on the property, creating the perfect retreat for nature lovers and artists alike.

Dinner option

Dinner is available at extra charge and must be booked in advance.

It is a home cooked four-course set menu which is highly commended by guests and made largely from fresh local and home grown produce picked on the day.

Bold Head Road, Kakapotahi 7885, West Coast, New Zealand

Paramata Lodge is just 30 minutes south of Hokitika, 14 minutes south of Ross, and 1.2 hours north of Franz Josef. Paramata Lodge is 5km off State Highway 6, from either end, on a loop road (Bold Head Road) between the Mikonui and Waitaha Rivers. From the north, turn into Bold Head Road 5km south of the town of Ross. From the south, 28km north of Harihari cross the single lane Waitaha Bridge and turn left into Beach Road (to Kakapotahi), then right into Bold Head Road a travel 5 km.
