Okarito Lagoon is New Zealand’s largest unmodified wetland, a stunning shallow and calm tidal waterway surrounded by Westland Tai Poutini National Park, with incredible views of the Southern Alps of a fine day, and some of New Zealand’s best bird-viewing opportunities.

Renting kayaks to explore independently is suitable for all levels of experience and ages, in the right conditions; we provide a detailed safety and navigation briefing with simple markers to follow across the open wetland and right up into the forest-surrounded rivers, all within a two to four hour journey.

Family-friendly, Okarito Kayaks have been local owned and operated for some thirty odd years, in the beautiful unspoilt town of Okarito, just north of Franz Josef Glacier.
