What is pounamu? (NZ jade, greenstone) Join us at Hikoi Waewae headquarters in Hokitika to experience including Karakia ( Maori blessing ), Mihi whakatau (introduction) and local Maori history of pounamu. See, handle & learn the names of the different pounamu varieties. See & learn the meanings of popular pounamu designs. Rules regarding sourcing of pounamu. See & handle beautiful pounamu specimens found on local beaches. Short walk along beach front to the famous Hokitika sign. The legend of Poutini & Waitaiki, told by our local Maori guide.
